BEOWULF Digital Pack Ten is en route!
over 1 year ago – Thu, Sep 08, 2022 at 04:39:42 PM

Hello!

I've just send out the coupons for BEOWULF Digital Pack Ten.

In this Tenth Digital Pack of bonus content for BEOWULF: Age of Heroes, we bring you:

  • A new battle map - the battle at the ford
  • A PDF of new rules for collecting Monster Parts by Jacob Rodgers
  • A PDF featuring the Holt Folc by Jacob Rodgers - a new monster for your adventures
  • A PDF article on the importance of centre-boss shields in the Early Medieval era
  • 2 new music tracks
  • 6 NPC portraits by Scott Purdy
  • 6 VTT tokens of the NPC portraits

if you don't have a coupon, please check that your pledge was at a reward level, and then check those spam folders. If you still don't have a coupon from drivethruRPG, let me know via [email protected] and I'll send you a new coupon - DrivethruRPG mail outs often go astray, so don't panic. We'll make sure you get your Digital Pack!

This is your second free digital pack as a backer of this campaign - you unlocked a total of 6 digital packs as part of this campaign.

We've been making Digital Packs from the first BEOWULF campaign, and decided not to restart the numbering, or change the title format, since that seems more confusing. As Twin Seas Backers you'll get packs 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14. If you missed any of the previous packs it's easy to catch up at DrivethruRPG.

We also unlocked 5 adventures - those are underway, but naturally take a little bit longer to bring together than the Digital Packs. We'll send along your first free adventure as soon as it's ready to go! We don't have an ETA on that yet, but as we draw closer to release we'll let you know.

Other progress

We're pretty much there on everything else now. A couple of rewards still need to be delivered to us, but they're all in good shape. We will also need to ship the books across the Atlantic for our US backers, which will begin soon.

We'll let the pledge manager run until closer to the end of the month, and then we'll start sending out books! Don't worry about when the pledge manager ends - I'll make sure to give you a couple of warnings as we get closer to that date so you can finalise what you'd like in your pledge, and make sure we have the most up to date shipping address.

Thanks again for all your support, and I hope you enjoy the Digital Pack!

IMPORTANT BEOWULF TWIN SEAS: Surveys are away
over 1 year ago – Thu, Aug 25, 2022 at 06:33:51 PM

Hello!

Quick bit of housekeeping regarding surveys and the pledge manager.

After a succesful trial run, all surveys are now en route to you.

You should get an email from Backerkit inviting you to complete the survey - this will allow us to collect your address, and your shipping fees.

We estimate closing the pledge manager towards the end of Septmeber, to give everyone a chance to complete things and add on any extras you might want. We will of course give you plenty of notice of the pledge manager closing and your cards being charged. I aim to do this one week before closing, with a reminder 48 hours before.

Some more Backerkit text which says it better than I can:

You don’t need to create a BackerKit account to fill out your survey. When you receive the email with the survey, click the survey link to respond. Answer the questions about your reward preferences, provide shipping information, and purchase add-on items if you like. You don’t have access to this survey link yet, but it will be available soon via email!

After you respond to your survey, you can go back later and change your responses at any time before we close the surveys and get our final counts.

If you need to review your information or pledge status, you can return to your survey by clicking the link in your survey email or requesting your survey link under "Lost your survey?" on our BackerKit project page at https://beowulf-the-trials-of-the-twin-seas-for-5e.backerkit.com.

Thanks for your support! I'll keep this update strongly factual so we don't lose any details in the churn!

But I'll be back soon with something more entertaining!

IMPORTANT! We have Twin Seas books! And BackerKit surveys are coming!
over 1 year ago – Wed, Aug 17, 2022 at 10:36:08 PM

Books have arrived and they look awesome. But rather than read me waxing lyrical about them, check out these photos:

Here's the spot UV in action. Literally "shiny":

Printed endpapers?!

And the limited edition came out beautifully:

I am very happy.

So what's next?

We have three rewards which we're waiting for:

  • Story Cards
  • Inspiration Mats
  • Twin Seas Art Books.

These are all well progressed and in two out of three cases we're just waiting on manufacturers (who aren't late or anything - things just take time to make!).

We have another kickstarter in fulfilment right now, and to make sure we get things done right we're going to finish that one, take delivery of these 3 rewards, and then send out your books. But this is all good, because we haven't even got your addresses yet! Things moved very fast with us grabbing a surprise print slot ahead of schedule!

Surveys are coming

I'm going to use Backerkit's suggested update here, because it's well written:

Soon, you’ll receive an email from us with a special link to your BackerKit survey. It’s important to respond to your survey as quickly as you can since we need this information to fulfill your rewards.

Jon note: we don't need much info from you, bar your shipping address.

Retailers: you can give us your address, but we won't take any more money from you at this point. I'll be in touch via email.

Back to Backerkit text:

You don’t need to create a BackerKit account to fill out your survey. When you receive the email with the survey, click the survey link to respond. Answer the questions about your reward preferences, provide shipping information, and purchase add-on items if you like. You don’t have access to this survey link yet, but it will be available soon via email!

After you respond to your survey, you can go back later and change your responses at any time before we close the surveys and get our final counts.

If you need to review your information or pledge status, you can return to your survey by clicking the link in your survey email.

If you used your Facebook credentials to log in to your Kickstarter account, the BackerKit survey is sent to the email address you use for your Facebook account.

Jon again: hopefully you'll get your surveys this week. We shall see!

Maskwitches of Forgotten Doggerland launches tomorrow

Quick reminder, if this kind of thing is your jam.

I'm running a little quickstarter for a side project I've been whittling away at - Maskwitches of Forgotten Doggerland is a setting book for The Silver Road story telling game - a super minimalist RPG I came up with while we were waiting for the Twin Seas funds to arrive.

Maskwitches of Forgotten Doggerland is a semi-psychedelic imaginary Mesolithic setting, placing your stories in Forgotten Doggerland – the land that lies drowned beneath the North Sea.

You can sign up to be rmeinded when the campaign goes live here.

Right, that's it for now!

Don't forget that we have a nice friendly community and it’s not too fast moving, so it’s easy to join in. If you’d like to join up, point your browser at www.discord.me/handiworkgamers Give Jacob or me a shout out when you land that you're a backer and we'll give you the keys to the super secret awesome backer channel. And even if you're not a backer you're still very welcome!

Twin Seas: Digital Pack en route!
over 1 year ago – Tue, Aug 09, 2022 at 01:09:27 PM

Hello!

Digital Pack Nine is on it's way to you if you pledged at a level that qualifies to get it - which is pretty much any reward level!

You should see a coupon from DrivethruRPG land in your in box in the next hour or so. If you don't, don't panic. There's a quick list to run through to remedy the situation:

1: check your pledge includes the digital pack. If it doesn't, you'll be able to catch up in the pledge manager (More on that below)

2: Check your spam folder - this is where most missing Drivethru coupons end up. It's a mass email out and spam filters DON'T LIKE IT!

3: Drop me a line at [email protected] and I'll resend you a coupon. You can message me here, but notifications don't always reach me. Please be patient if you're in a different time zone to me - I will get you your digital pack.

Now, this is an advanced look - we're doing secondary proofing right now, so there will likely be an update to the PDFs in time. But I thought you might appreciate that advanced peek. The pack will go on sale to the general public tomorrow.

Physical Book Update

Books are now in motion to our base in the UK. We have a couple more rewards to get in before the great send out can begin, but having jumped up the print queue, we're in very good shape.

I wanted to get your feedback on something - it's Tabletop Scotland at the end of this month, and we'll be in attendance. There's no way we'll have books sent out to our more far flung friends, but we might have shipped all the UK rewards. If we do, I'm wondering about perhaps releasing a very limited number of Twin Seas books at the event. I'm not dead set on this course - in many ways I'd prefer to hold it back until everyone has had their copy dispatched. And I totally understand if you don't like the idea.

On the other hand, it'd be a great promotional event for our little company in what are generally trying times. So let me know what you think?

Pledge Manager

I know this is the 583920th time I've said "almost ready". We're this close to launching the pledge manager. This will let you give us your mailing address, update it yourself as needed, add more goodies and allow others to make late pledges. The work is almost all done - it was delayed by a ton of post-brexit paperwork for the print run at the end of last week which simply had to get done - I hope to get it into approval tomorrow.

Vikings in Space?

I've been chatting to author Ian Sharpe of the Vikingverse, who asked me for some thoughts on his campaign. It's an awesomelycool setting featuring viking tropes in an alternate future. It uses the Shadow of the Demonlord rules, which are always interesting to mine for ideas even if you don't play the system. And you need to be quick - there's just a few days left on their campaign:

When The Wolf Comes RPG, a game of storytelling, heroism, and epic struggle set during a reimagined Norse End of Days - and powered by Robert J. Schwalb’s Shadow of the Demon Lord system.

A complete tabletop role playing game in one (approx) 250 page, 8.5" x 11" hardcover book, When The Wolf Comes provides everything you need to create and play characters, form warbands in pursuit of fame and plunder, and tell sci-fi sagas with your friends. The book also gives Game Masters all the tools they need to create adventures, a bestiary full of deadly Grendel-kin, and a detailed history of the Níu Heimar worthy of the sagas.

The game has a few days to go on Kickstarter, and can be found here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/vikingverse/when-the-wolf-comes-rpg

Maskwitches of Forgotten Doggerland

Speaking of campaigns - I'm running a little quickstarter for a side project I've been whittling away at - Maskwitches of Forgotten Doggerland is a setting book for The Silver Road story telling game - a super minimalist RPG I came up with while we were waiting for the Twin Seas funds to arrive.

Maskwitches of Forgotten Doggerland is a semi-psychedelic imaginary Mesolithic setting, placing your stories in Forgotten Doggerland – the land that lies drowned beneath the North Sea.

At the end of the last ice age, after tides rose as the earth warmed, what we now call Doggerland was subject to an unimaginably vast tidal wave, and was lost forever. We know precious little about this place, and as such it makes a marvelous location to set weird tales of the now-forgotten witches.

In The Silver Road each character has two things they’re good at and two things they are bad at. In Maskwitches of Forgotten Doggerland, these take the form of the masks the witches wear, and amulets they carry. Witches are able to trade and change their masks, making their characters’ identities extremely fluid.

There are several suggested modes of play offered, but the main one is that the players take the role of witches who respond to the problems of the hunter gatherer communities of Forgotten Doggerland. Problems which frequently manifest into strange and horrific creatures which much be defeated in ritualised magical warfare.

The campaing will be a week long Quickstarter, and you can sign up to be notified of the launch now: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jonhodgsonmaptiles2/maskwitches-of-forgotten-doggerland

Right, that's it for now!

Photos of Twin Seas printed book!
almost 2 years ago – Fri, Jul 29, 2022 at 06:51:41 AM

Hello!

As if by magic, our printer sent us some photos of the printed books! (well I asked but let's call it magic) I'm very, very happy with how these look. Our tiny but mighty team have done an amazing job.

The books will ship to us this coming week, and should arrive in our UK warehouse the week after that, all being well. We will of course keep you updated.

Enjoy!

Jon
